As for using a jigsaw vs. using a router:

With the jigsaw method you need three or four tools, a compass to mark the cut,a drill to make the starting hole, a jigsaw, a hole template, and a router with a flush cut bearing bit.

With the router method, you only need the router and the swinging arm jig (home-made or Jasper) and a nail. OK, maybe a hammer, too, for the nail.

In real life, the only way to make the hole jig for the jigsaw method is to use the router method anyway.

Even tho using the router method involves making 6-8 passes, its still simpler and cleaner and may be faster. In reality, making the depth adjustmnets takes longer than each cutting pass.

If your only tool is a hammer, you tend to treat all problems as if they were nails.
