Casters?

Can't wait to see the photos your new shop.

It is a little frustrating seeing it through the window as I carefully position the 21829 in the one position on the back porch that allows ripping--with the rails sticking into the kitchen doorway.

The shop/garage may actually have more sq. ft. than the house.

But although I'll be excited by the eventual aquisition, I can't imagine the pictures would thrill anybody else.

Anybody can have a nice shop with enough space, the right wiring already in place, and other provisions built in by the builder/contractor who put it up for himself--some of his five tablesaws are there, as is his "extra" shaper, the "old" bandsaw (heavy duty Delta 14" with risers), the "backup" jointer, and so on. Main shop became satellite shop became primary storage became satellite storage.

Showing photos would be kind of like passing around pictures of an antique car restored at great expense by a professional....nice to own, but not much of a personal accomplishment.

I have both the douible locking casters from Woodcraft and Grizzly. The Griz are almost a s good as the Woodcraft but not quite as stable when locked. Probably 85-90% as stable. I go for the Woodcraft but wait till a sale and buy several sets. The last sale had them down to a bit less than Grizzly's with shipping. I haven't tried the ones from the sites Papy linked to but they look good. I'm pretty fortunate that I have a Woodcraft about 10 miles form me so I try to buy instead of order when I can.

The Hartville ones won out because I wanted to get something else from there anyway, and it's getting so that shipping charges affect things more than the actual price.

All four for the BT/Craftsman will be swivel/braking, thanks to the valuable input--decided that if I got annoyed just once that two of them either didn't swivel or didn't brake, I would be even more irritated that spending another four bucks total would have prevented it.

lcm1947: re the stems--at a garage sale I bought a set of big swivel casters with stems, and they came with separate mounting hardware pieces. These are 90 degree corner brackets, with a cylinder for the stem to pop into. There is a small piece of crimped metal set into a channel around the top part of the stem that apparently keeps the stem from slipping out. This piece has a technical name that I don't remember.

Thanks gwyneth for the info on the stem style casters and I agree with you about all four needing to being swivel and locking especially if the table is on one where you might apply pressure from all directions at any given time such as on a workbench. Yeah shipping is a factor and that alone ( thank God ) has kept me from ordering on more then one occasion. That's why I love MLCS so much. No shipping.
