    spiral bit? for speaker openings

Building speaker is my hobby, and I have a handheld router I use frequently. I have a straight bit but spiral bit has been recommended for mostly MDF and plywood work.

Anyone have recommendation in under $50 range?

    thanks,

Spiral bit 1/4" diameter is usually under $20. I use Lee Valley and like it a lot. MLCS is ready to sell you a set of 3 bits (1/4", 3/8", 1/2") for $50 with free shipping.

Rockler also has the spiral bits, I use their high speed steel bit for 1/4" mostly. Less likely to break. I believe our friend Holbren has them as well.

if you order carbide bits, you can get them for $15-20 from the router bit specialty discounters.
You might want to order two of the 1/4" spiral carbide bits = they're
somewhat brittle and thin in crosssection, you may break one, I did.

If you don't have one, look for the Jasper circle jig which uses 1/4" bit.
I recommend Infinity bits which are having an overstock sale:

Look for 85-113 spiral upcut bit for $12.

I bought my spiral bits from Holbren and have been happy. Get an up-spiral bit to help w/ dust removal. It's much faster and I feel I have better control than plowing through with a straight bit.
