    Cabinet Doors w/ Slot Cutter

My first attempt at some cabinet doors using the slot cutter bit that came with my Holbren bit set.

Cut a 1/4" slot into the inside each of the stiles and rails for a small plywood panel to sit. Cut four more small pieces of plywood to use as splines so they were the same thickness and used those to hold the stiles and rails together as well. Nice tight fit with all the parts so pretty happy with the results.

Two more cabinet doors and then I can get back to building the world's ugliest dollhouse for my niece.....haha.

Square isn't something that's generally associated with my work. These just happen to be small enough that you can't tell.....haha.

It's great to experiment with alternative construction methods. Getting used to slotting and splines can move you into box joints. When you start having glue up dreams you're really hooked.

I've tinkered with those a little bit:

Built a little jig to do the box joints with a dado blade setup. I'd like to try something a little smaller with a 1/4" setup instead of the half inch.

Now I have enough built in my shop and I have to start MAKING things. My wife and I enjoy all the birds where we live so right now I'm working on a Tudor style birdhouse....my first time working with cedar. Maybe this is the starter project level -- cutting boards and bird houses....haha. Better get a little more experience before I tackle that pencil post bed I want to make for my niece.
