You won't be able to "mortice" the center section per se with a router with the stock flat to the table and get square corners. I set up a horizontal jig for a router, that I used for drawer sides and dadoes. With verticle adjustment and a straight bit, passing the part through on edge with a miter gauge with a fence, and a back-up piece for blow out.
