These do not have lifetime warranty, Husky@HD,and HF ones do. I have both and the Husky is better in 1/2" drive size due to 250

I have access to everything from 10GA to 2" 80ksi min yield sheet. Right now my plan is to cut the plate from 1/4 stock with an oversized hole. Then weld or fasten a slightly smaller ring under the plate, creating a lip around the inside of the hole. Then attach phenolic inserts to the lip with some small screws. The whole assembly (minus the phenolic insert) will be powder coated when I'm done. Does anyone have experience with a white router plate? I was thinking it would provide a nice contrast with the wood for visibility (and its the only color of powder I have readily available).

A Steel router plate/top is probably a fine idea but its beyond the ability of most of us to machine easily, unlike plastics and alum. If you have access to the materials and machines to work it, by all means make a top to your dreams.

There is one company, Veritas, making an all steel top, not an insert. It might be worth while for you to take a look at it and their claimed advantages:

They sell inserts for this top, you may be interested in buying or copying them.

The table is thin 3/16ths and it looks liek they use those flush-welded studs to fasten the router and other stuff to the bottom with only a dimple showing on top.
