My answer to the messy chop saw

Not sure if this topic belongs here or not but it really doens't seem to belong any where so since this seems to be a catch all I'll post here. Anyway, I really like my chop saw and use it an awlful lot but it is one of the messiest tools I have due to the collection arrangement being less then poor so I decided I'd do something about it. You are looking at my attempt to tame the beast. It ain't pretty but it works pretty darn good, maybe not extremely well as I thought it would but certainly much much better then before. So I'm pleased with it. It is somewhat of a pain, if you call unscrewing two to four screws when you need to miter or bevel something but I seldom do either of those so most of the time it's ready to go. Anyway, what all have some of you done to yours?

I just installed my dust collection system and wasted time and money on the adapter to go from 4" to the dust bag fitting. Surprisingly most of the dust lands on the floor behind the saw still / stand.
I've seen those big funnel looking things and my next step is to try to make one of those out of sheetmetal.
I'll let you know if I have better luck with that method.

Hey premalbe. Yeah that opening for the bag just isn't big enough plus not enough volume to catch all the extremely fine fine dust particles that's the really bad stuff for you. Good luck on the big funnel thing but unless you can get it really really close to the blade I think you'll still lose a lot of saw dust and the very fine particles. Just my thinking anyway.

Mac, that looks like a good idea.
It looks like you can trim those platforms so the saw can be tilted for bevel work w/o removing the platforms and losing DC. Just gotta cut off the inside corners and won't even impinge on where the hoses sit.

Looks great. They will certainly help with a high CFM dust collector.

very similar to the set up I have on my RA200 but mine isn't as pretty as yours.
