Leveling ZCTP

Last night while cutting some 3/4" strips to use to build a cutting board I noticed that the piece would actually drop lower when moved past the ZCTP. I was wondering what everyone has done to correct this. I was thinking about adding washers to the underside of the plate to shim it. Another potential problem was flex in the ZCTP. It was hard for me to determine if it really was flexing, as I was trying to work around problem #1. Just looking for some ideas.

I assume you're talking about the Ryobi ZCTPs? This is a known problem with them, and one reason that many use other materials to make their own ZCTPs.

Until I switched to different material, I shimmed the ledge that the TP rests on with several layers of 5 mil aluminum tape. Doesn't fix the flex, though.

I used "metalized" mailing address labels about 4-5 mils thick
to boost up the height of the ZCTPs

Others have poured epoxy filler into the lattice on the bottom side of the ZCTPs to make them stiffer.

Of course the best way is to make them out of some sturdy wood or plastic.

You can use some small rubber o-rings on the screws between the zctp and the table.

I ended up using some metal washers. That has made the height perfect.

The Epoxy idea is great. Going to perhaps give that a whirl to stiffen it up.
