    A Few Things Done

I finally got some shop time and actually made a few things. Some were utility type projects but at least I got to eat some sawdust. The finish on all pieces is precatalyzed lacquer.

I bought my wife a dress form for Christmas last year and the base was a piece of plastic crap that broke soon after she got it and didn't support the form well anyway. Three layers of Poplar laminated, cut to my design and stained with Minwax Weathered Oak.

This small cup was intended to be a mini urn for some of the ashes form her dad and step mom. Turned from Box Elder and drilled with a forstner bit but I screwed up. I used the wrong bit and drilled it too big for the lid to fit snug so she uses it to keep her rings when she takes them off. I'll pick up another turning block and make the urn later.

The shoe cabinet replaces a canvas/plastic one that hung on the wall. Made from 1/2" Balti Birch with 3/16" shelves set in dados.

A pair of Purple Heart wall hanger racks. Evidently this particular piece had a low tannin content and the purple color just didn't come out good.
