Phase 1 cabinet installed, not on the side like the photo shows, though it would have been easier.

Phase 2 cabinets build in shop. These cabinets were brush/rolled painted in shop rather than spray like phase 1

Install complete, sorry about the photos being on their sides..... That's the sawdust zone way, so get over it!
The cabinets are 8'6 tall making photos difficult to say the least.

That's a laundry room and a half! Nice job. The finish looks great. I see an air hose. You sprayed? What paint?

Phase 1 and 3 were sprayed. I used a Titan airless with a 6" fan tip. Phase 1 went so well with the sprayer I wanted to see how good this paint brushed and rolled, and phase 2 was the smallest build. Spraying is such a pain setting up, moving everything, covering everything you don't want paint on, 3 days to prime, 1st coat, 2nd coat and clean up then move everything back in the shop to assemble. Brushing and rolling turned out great but phase 3 was so large I didn't want to do it in the shop. The paint is Benjamin Moore Advance interior waterborne alkyd. Satin texture, not gloss. I tried it on the recommendation from the paint dept manager of our new nearby lumber/hardware store. We go way back when he was manager of the Porter paint store that I relied on for industrial paint. This stuff covers great and self levels to the point that the set of cabinets that was brushed and rolled looked almost as good as the ones I sprayed. Advance says it is a cabinet paint that is best sprayed. Brushing this paint is amazing, you prime, smear on a first coat, not spending any time fretting about rubbing it, wait 16 hours and come back to a sprayed looking finish that's almost thick enough, smear on another coat and come back to a finish that looks like it was sprayed and baked on! If you don't dabble around brushing back and forth trying to get the brush marks out and move on this paint self levels itself! I've never seen such. The reviews are mixed on advance and complain about its long drying time. Advance says it's improved the drying times and I did not have a problem, I let it dry 16 hours before moving the cabinet carcasses inside and another 16 hours before assembling doors and drawers. the paint seemed dry but I wouldn't want to handle it much for a week or so. These being laundry room cabinets I had the luxury of not being rushed, but if it was a kitchen cabinet build and you were trying to use the cabinets it would be difficult using this product. I will use it now for my interior trim, doors and other cabinet / furniture needs though.

What brand/kind of brush do you use? I have to thin down Advance to spray with my Earlex HVLP and it's too hot to spray outside or in the shop. I have some cabinet and drawer fronts that need finishing but I got streaks with Advance when I brushed it. I have tried Purdy and Corona brushes.

I found a purdy 2" medium brush at lowes mixed in with theri minwax polly that worked well. It has the blue bristles. The purdy soft brush didnt work out at all, all it would do was "v" open and was a pia to use. Thats the only $15 brush i have ever returned to the store.
I sprayed Advance unthinned in 100+ temp with an airless rig. Did you thin it with flowtrol?
I thinned some with windshield washer fluid rather that water and a dash of flowtrol and it rolled pretty well.
Did you put the paint on with 1 swipe and no more than 1-2 brush wipes to level it out? If you fret with it and brush it much it will not self level. It dries slow but gets tacky quickly and skins over.
My friend that demonstrates Advance at his store applies it with a cheap 2" throw away chip brush, applies the paint wirh 1 stroke and gets another brush full and applies another brush full, and never really rebrushes anything. The finish comes out looking like glass! All of us perfectionists that have to rub and rub and dabble in the paint to get it just right , cant get it right.

You described my technique to a T. Guess I'll try the swipe once or twice.

When I sprayed, I only thinned with water although I did buy Flowtrol to do it. I didn't want to experiment on my first go. When I brushed, I did it straight from the can.

Tomorrow looks like it will be another no shop day because of the heat. Ive got a window unit but I don't want to blow dust around. I think I can clear a spot in the basement for a painting area. It is cooler down there, though.
