I started with 24 inches of 3/4" maple, 3 inches high.
Planed the wood down (should have planed the top, as well).
The top ----- 4" of walnut, 2" of maple - split the maple into 2 1" strips.
I joined the pieces for the top with dowels. When I accidentally drilled
all the way through one of the maple holes, opted to use through dowels.
It worked out!
Thinking the top could have used a round-over or beaded edge.
Finger joints aren't all that hard to cut ---- I clamp a stop block on my miter, cut the
fingers, move the stop block in, by the blade thickness, and then cut the grooves I don't really measure
things much -- I mostly match stuff. I find measuring creates a more sterile looking piece.
(inspired by Sam Maloof --- I don't ever think I saw him with a measuring device)Last edited by durango dude; 08-01-2015, 10:03 AM.Comment

I like that design. And as you mentioned, wonder what the top would look like rounded over. Seeing some of the smaller projects that have been posted recently, I am getting antsy to do some woodworking for myself. (I am in the process of making a set of bunk beds for my daughter, but that don't count, that is work.Hank Lee
