    Finished Crib!

I'm REALLY glad to be done with this project! Most difficult I have undertaken... particularly since I had no clue how to accomplish the curved moldings.

I learned many things along the way and have become a big fan of West System Six10 epoxy and System 3 T88 ... both saved my butt a couple of times when I needed lots of time to get the clamping done.

I have come to really appreciate the larger shop and particularly the big 4x8 assembly table.

It is true ... you can NEVER have enough clamps!

I will deliver the crib this weekend as my gift for their "couples shower" and I'm really excited to see how they like it.

Sorry about the smudge on the camera lens...

That crib was looking really nice before the finish, now the describing word has to change to BEAU-TEE-FUL!

That is very classy, great workmanship. Was this your design, and what is the finish?

        Thank you...

Yes, my "design" based on a picture of a crib my daughter and son-in-law saw that they liked. I bought a plan from Rockler to get dimension requirements and regulatory compliance guidelines.

The wood is rift sawn white oak. The finish is General gel stain Java and then topcoat are water based matte finish poly.

Thank you all for the nice words!

I started this project back in mid-December going to the mill about 200+ miles away and buying the lumber. Typically I worked on it off and on from that time for about 3 hours at a shot. It took me three weeks to figure out how to do the molding and build the "press"/jig to get that done.

The finish color is not what I personally would have chosen being so dark but it fits well with what they have in the rest of the house. On the other hand ... ... a dark stain can hide little flaws that seem to pop up often in my projects.

I did take a number of pictures along the way and you can view them in the Picasa photo album here => Crib photos

Now I just have to figure out how to get the beast loaded in the SUV and delivered ...

Like you, I'm not a fan of dark stains on White Oak. Fuming gives it a look of having aged for many years.

But then, it was what they wanted, and it came out as fantastic as the craftsmanship of the piece!

                              Beautiful piece, Bade!
