A friend of LOML's @ the space center wanted to decorate her desk for Halloween, and had some of those scarecrow dolls on bamboo sticks.
She wanted some "rustic bases" for the dolls. I went out to the shop and whipped up exactly that. I found the knottiest, although straight, pieces of 2x6 scrap I could find, and cut it so it was 2x6x6, found the centers, drilled a 1/2" hole dead center, and then cut the bamboo stakes to length, and sanded them just down under 1/2" diameter...
I took some 80 grit on a sanding block and relieved the edges, and roughed it up a hair...
Yes they are pretty crude ornaments, no finish or anything, even the construction grading stencils were left for the rustic effect... For the purpose though, rough and rustic is where it's at!
