    Cornhole Boards

The LOMF wanted a set of cornhole boards so I looked around the garage and found some scraps from previous projects and discovered I had enough to build a set. So I bought the paint, logos, and hardware and got to work. She said since I was making them I should make a gator set. I came up with a design that I thought was really cool, then I did search on the internet on some tips, only to find a set of UNC boards with nearly the same design. After painting them I added about 12 coats of poly on the top. Since I don't sew I found the bags on ebay. The only problem I have right now is the bags didn't really slide that well on the fresh poly, not sure if everything is just to new and as it ages it will slide better or what. So I add a little bit of Johnson past wax to help them slide better and I think it might be to slick right now. Really don't know how slick it is suppose to be. Any one know what the proper slickness is and how to get it?

I'm not familiar with what Cornhole boards are, and I'm definitely afraid to Google it on a work computer.

Definitely not what I had pictured from the topic of this thread. Glad to see it was something else.

Given the thread topic though and the school involved, I have to keep watching this thread.

I made a set similar to yours and bought the bags from an outfit in South Carolina, can't remember the name. If you use bags filled with real corn they will eventually produce a powder that makes the board more slippery. I don't have any designs on mine and the finish is polyurethane. They get better with use.

In my experience, a little "sticky" is fine. Too slipery is horible and hard as you know what to play on.

George Carlin and adult sites using software such as this sprung to mind, when I read Cornhole boards.

I was the director of our neighborhood's National Night Out this year. We had a couple of cornhole boards at the event. But I called them a "Bag Toss" game in the flyers and emails to the neighborhood ... just to be politically correct!

(Sorry, I can't help you with the degree of slide on your boards.)

I made sets of those by the dozens a few years ago. The markup and what people are willing to pay was crazy. Mine were just simple 2x4 frames with 1/2" ply for the top. I painted them all with a semi-gloss, and it seemed to be just about the right friction.

                  Nice cornhole! Those look great.

When I made mine, I used a few coats of semi-gloss latex, too. Seems to be the right slickness for me.

Well when I measured the slickness the board that had the johnsons paste wax started to slide at 20" and the plain board was around 34". I stripped the wax off and then followed a suggestion of wiping them with corn starch. They now start to slide right around 25", and according to the cornholegameplayers.com that is right in the proper range. Figure will give them the rest of the week to cure and give them a test this Friday.
