    Wine Cart-The Story

Last summer, a wine cart project was posted in a Canadian publication.

I thought it would be fun so I gathered up the lumber and set to work. The following pictures run through some of the more significant steps. The top was 2x6 cedar, planed to 1 1/4 and and the middle and bottom shelves were from 5/4 fence boards planed to 7/8's. The rails are 1/2" copper pipe.

    Gluing the top section

To cut the copper pipe, I built a jig to work with a precision saw and a pipe cutting blade.

Tops sanded and edges rounded over

Pipe and legs cut to size. Legs have bored out to receive pipe.

To finish the cart, I sanded to 220 and applied a 50-50 blo/ms blend and let it cure for a week. Then sanded at 220 again and applied Circa 1850 Tung And Teak oil. Once dry I sanded at 220 the reapplied the Tung and Teak oil. After this coat dried, I buffed with extra fine steel wool and applied 2 coats of poly, buffing with steel wool in between coats.

      Finished cart

Thanks for looking. Now I need to get back to pens

I really like that finish and it looks great on the cedar. Thank you for sharing the details of the finish work.

Looks great Richard! Don't remember (from the original article) but is there any castor under the cart? I like the finish too!

Back to pens? Looks like you're headed to the deck (although it must still be Winter in Canada, maybe this is for next summer).
              Seriously looks great.

                Nicely done, Richard!
I like Circa 1850 products. Made by Swing Paints in Montreal.
I have used their Antique Danish Oil and liked it very much as well.
They have an interactive website where you can ask questions and they always respond very quickly, at least to my querries.
Again very nice wine cart, congratulations.

Great looking cart, Richard. The finish really makes the tones in the cedar pop!

How about a wide shot of the whole thing?

Thanks for all the kid words friends. The copper was sprayed with a few light coats of clear Krylon. There are 2" castors under the skirt supported by 1" blocks from the base shelf. And one wider shot as requested.

It looks very nice. Do you plan to use the bottom shelf for anything (storage?), or will it stay empty?
