    Cutting board for the In-Laws

Purpleheart and Oak squares along with Redwood borders and dividers.

Was a little lazy early on and didn't put dividers in between the oak and purpleheart for the first glue-up. That would have helped the cafe-wall illusion pop out more. And really, no, I was not in any way trying to make something that would drive the mother in law batty ...

Just put a first coat of walnut oil on after sanding to 1200 or so grit. I figure I got the power tool and the velcro pads ... might as well use them.

I am thinking of sanding again after a few days of letting the walnut oil cure.

Not sure I like the rounded redwood ends, but felt like I needed to just complete it and send it. Probably just being to self critical.

Thanks guys, really do appreciate the positive comments. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and those of you who code will understand how you can go batty trying to eke out every last bit of performance out of an algorithm. Gotta learn to let good be good enough sometimes.

Unlike coding Poobah, this is art, let your other side take over and enjoy natures flaws ;-) You did good for your MIL

Now I'm going nuts trying to see this as a flat board - that dang illusion of each row popping out at an angle is too realistic! Looks great!

                      Great looking . . .

. . . but, if I look at it too long or at the wrong angle I get sea sick.

                      Regards, Steve.

Great work ! The illusion really pops. Now, tell you MIL that it's a chess board to see her rxn.

The board looks great, but I don't understand the intended illusion. I guess my lack of imagination is showing again.

                          Nice build

Great looking board and one you will not see every day. Very unique. I think you nailed it. Figuratively speaking.
