That is a nice design. It's not quite like a fixed shelf but better than the typical shelf that floats on pins or brackets. If you fool around with the sagulator, you'll see that for a given shelf geometry, fixed shelves sag about 25% less than fixed shelves.
I wish I could do that for some leaning shelves I'm building but cutting simple dadoes at 7 degrees off perpendicular is already giving me fits and sweats.

Nice job! I've made a couple similar cabinets based upon a plan from Woodsmith. It does not have the fixed shelf but has a face frame. It is also a little narrower and shorter. Shelves are supported by pins and are working fine for my daughter and me so far.

Thanks again for all the kind words! I will post another picture or two as soon as it is painted (probably late Spring). Meanwhile I have to get to work on few projects for the shop itself.Turaj (in Toronto)

Nicely done, Turaj.
I like that style for shelf supports. When I made a china hutch several years ago (oh my it was in 2006? time flies!) I used that style for the shelf supports in the lower half. I had remembered a project that Norm did on NYW.Last edited by Brian G; 01-14-2012, 10:45 AM.BrianComment
