The oldest son and his projects

Here are a couple of pictures of what the oldest son is doing in his high school shop class. I think he is taking after his dad and will be lost in the shop when he is older. I can tell you that I am a proud mom.









The top picture is a box that is the Order of The Arrow symbol for Boy Scouts. And the bowl that he turned.

My dad once said to someone about me losing a tool (misplacing it) and even breaking a tool - "I would rather him do that where he loses a tool or two and I know it, than wondering what he is up to that he might be in a world of trouble out somewhere else.

He is doing much better work this year than last year. The bowl is pine stacked flat then turned while attached to a face plate. The box is a scrollsaw box in western cedar. I think the small cut-outs on the lid is his attemt at matching the flecking of the OA symbol.

You've got a right to be proud, those are a couple of nice pieces.

It's nice to see some schools still offer shop classes. They're getting fewer and fewer.

You both have every right to be proud of him, as does he. Don't push him to do more, just let him take it at his own pace and desires. I don't think he is going to quit woodworking. (If he does, take him to the woodshed for a motivational 'talk'....)

How old is he? 12 - 13? That's quite focused for a hormone riddled brain to handle. The trick is to keep him focused through all of the confusion of his peers and the media. Just keep on, keepin' on and tell him how proud you are of him. Good on you, the Mrs and the boy!!
