    Birthday Presents

My Mom and my wife's Mom share the same birthday on December 7th. We decided to give them the same gift this year. I made each of them the Santa Clause out of some leftover Beech. My wife did the design. I free handed it with a 1/8" router bit.

Outstanding! I never have been good in free handing with a router. I always have to have a guide or template.

Clause Justin. Doing it freehand, wow. If I tried it, there would be some red stain...

Very nice. If I tried that, I think mine would be red too.

All I can say is WOW! Those looked amazing. If you don't mind me asking what type of router did you use? Did you use one of those palm routers? Thanks for sharing your finished work!

                Kindest Regards,

Cool! Just enough minor differences to show they weren't 'cookie cutter' production.

Free hand isn't my forte, either.

Thanks for the kind words. I finished it with two coats of danish oil I had left over from a previous project. I used a HF palm router to do the routering. It was actually easier than I thought. I feel like I used the same muscles as when I'm painting. I used a nice gentle "stroke" to guide the router following my lines. Of course it helped that I was using a 1/8" router bit. Any bigger might not have been so easy.

Those are adorable. And honestly, I am always a little envious of those that can handle a router freehand. Mine always wants to try to get away from me.
