    Keepsake Box

Hi there folks, I have been rather absent for a while as I have been very busy working since the early part of the summer on starting a new company.

I managed to get back into the shop over the past month and just finished this box which is a present for my Niece. The design is based on a few different ideas I have seen over the years which I have combined together into this keepsake box.

I have used various different woods to accent the primary walnut. The legs are ash/padauk, the stripe in the lid is maple and the keys are cherry and ebony.

Beautiful work! You really "thought outside the box" on the design. I like it.
I thought I was wrong, but I was mistaken.

That looks great. Was the front corner in the original plan or did the wood dictate the design?

Interesting design. Beautiful use of the grain patterns in the walnut.

Nice work, very "artsy". I like how you flowed the grain on the front corner.

Very cool, the flowing grain on the corner does look nice. The grain on the top works well with the curves too.

The no leg on that corner is way too cool by itself.

That's one outrageous box. Wish I made it.

Seriously, that is one excellent job you did, Jon. I love the leg treatment.

The front corner and elements of the 3 legs are based on a photo I saw in a book, no specific plans.

Thanks C-Man I had to hunt through quite a lot of my walnut stock to find a piece that had the right grain. It was worth it though :-)

Thanks Bruce, feel free to copy - I did ...

The original photo showed the use of the highlighted wood for the legs but they were shaped. I did experiment with a few samples but LOML said it was better to keep them square so what she says goes

Jon, between you and Bruce my work is starting to look like that of a novice. This simply is just breathtaking!

+1. What Mike said. Very nice lines, colors and finish. Looks like a show piece - maybe enter it at the fair?
