    This One's For Me!

After making some boxes for my wife and daughter, I decided to make one in the design I wanted. This is the result.

I used Wenge, Blood wood, Tigre Caspi and good old Spalted Maple.

The compartments are lined with Black Leather. The finish is my usual, 3 coats of natural Watco, with the 2nd applied with 320 Wet-Dry paper and the last with 600 Wet-Dry. The final top coat is 2 coats of Liberon Black Bison "Clear" applied with 0000 Liberon Steel Wool.

Making this box almost never saw the light of day. For some stupid reason I decided to make the individual layers as separate "beveled and mitered frames", sort of like cutting crown molding on the table saw and dealing with small pieces to boot.

Needless to say, a lot of expensive wood ended up in the scrap pile, got enough for handles to outlast me.

Here's the photos, let me know if my sweat and cussing were worth it.

BTW, the design is mine this time, although I'm sure that the basis for it came from stuff I saw.

Beautiful piece with an interesting combination of woods. I like the unusual design, too.

Four different kinds of wood (Obviously a project designed and undertaken just to clean out the scrap box), had to use a mismatched wood for the drawer face that doesn't match the rest of the bottom section, didn't even have enough material or money to make/buy a decent knob and had to use a finger pull.....

PM me for an address so you can send it to me. I will toss it on the burn pile for disposal, sometime in the next 30 years or so.

Can I lie and say yes?

Thought about that, after it was finished

OK, is there a hidden, and unaccessible, compartment in the middle?

Looks like it all stacks up Bruce. You piled up a good one! That has to be one of the most difficult projects I've ever seen posted here and you pulled it off flawlessly from what my eyes can see. Methinks the pile of offcuts you've got left was worth the final piece.

What Pappy said. Unfortunately, he gave you the wrong shipping address.

The correct one is : Herb Fellows.......

Please try to get it to me by Christmas, because that's when we have the ....uhh..... big bonfire where we get rid of all our junk wood.....yeah, that's it...

                        Guys,

Thanks for all the really encouraging comments, they're really appreciated. After living with a project for so long, one loses the ability to discern whether it's good or pukey looking.

Loring: I cna neither confirm nor deny the existence os a secret compartment.

Don: You're welcome to a rather large scrap pile of the woods used in attempting to produce this box. The only catch is that you have to show up in person in NY to claim your prize. Us Yankees aren't all totally brain dead.
