    Shopping Cart and Basket

Just finished up another project for a paying customer. The customer found me online and wanted a shopping cart that was exactly like this.

The end product looks really nice and is very functional. The entire piece is made from beech hardwood and finished with a food safe finish. The customer loves it and can't wait for his twin 20 month olds to play with it on Christmas day.

That's some unique cart...well done. I hope you got more than $79.

I wonder what it is about kids and shopping carts? Several of my granddaughters love to play with them.

I must say, your rendition looks a lot better than the ones we bought.

        that looks neat.

I see play plastic vegetables for the cart costs $24 at the site you linked. You could go to the store and pick up real veggies for a lot less and toss em or make soup with them when the kids are done playing.

If the customer has twins, he should've ordered two sets

Excellent copy/rendition of the picture. I'm betting the quality is better on yours. Good idea with the rabbets on the bottom on the and basket.

The customer originally wanted two shopping carts only. They then figured that a basket would give them both something to play with. The pieces took a little more time to complete than I originally intended; however, this was more due to my limited schedule in working on it. It probably took around 7-8 hours total.

I should have charged more than I did. Still made some money, but not for what I normally get for a project. Lesson learned. In the future I'll certainly charge more for the custom work. Custom work always takes longer due to planning, design, and of course, the ocasional mistake.

Are you considered a professional woodworker now? since you're getting money for it. I believe I am still an amateur because I only take beer as payment.
