    Irish Mail

I just finished making this hand cart for my 4 year old grandson as a birthday gift. I bought the plans and hardware as kit from Rockler.

    http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?p...8&filter=irish

I turned the handle on my drill press using this lathe attachment from Grizzly tools.

Nice work on that. They are a great ride for kids. I had one as a kid, but it was store bought, and not as nice as yours.

That is one lucky kid! I can hear him now braggin' on his grampa... I know I would be.

I had never seen that Grizzly attachment, it's interesting for someone like myself who might need a lathe once a year
do you feel that it worked ok? No concern about the directional pressure when using it?
For $20, it wouldn't have to perform a whole lot to get your moneys worth out of it, as long as I felt it wasn't damaging the drill press.

          Hook,
They are always talking about how over weight our children are now days. Back when we were kids, we had toys like what you have here. Toys that worked our arm, legs, etc.
I ADMIRE your work and your way of thinking.

I was trying to figure out what a child's toy has to do with the postal service in Ireland... I am still kind of confused. But it looks splendid...

What a neat gift; nice work! Brings back tons of memories too. A kid in our neighborhood had an Irish Mail but he was a snot and wouldn't anyone ride it. I was SO envious since all I had was an American Flyer wagon.

Wow, really cool!! I took me a second glance to figure out that the handle bars are actually part of the propulsion!!! So cool! Talk about a upper body workout :O row, row, row. Wish I had known about these sooner, thanks!

The Grizzly drill press attachment worked quite well. I used a slow speed and took light cuts and so there was not much lateral pressure. The hardest part of using the Grizzly attachment was centering the live center on the drill press base. As I started to turn I could see that it was off center. I ended up centering the attachment with the drill press in motion. This allowed me to move the base until the turning was running parallel to the tool rest.

Now you need to make an adult size version so you can ride with him(LOL). Great job on the construction and the finish.
