New Tabletop & Newly Stained Deck

My girlfriend's glass tabletop shattered under the weight of the heavy snows we had here last year. A replacement glass top was running $250+ locally, a ridiculous price. So....instead of throwing away a perfectly good table frame - we made a new top for it out of cedar.



All of the joints are biscuited and the tabletop was finished with 'General Finishes - Outdoor Oil'. I really like the finish.

After I made the table top, she went on a week long trip for work and took her dogs to her parent's.....a great opportunity to clean and seal that weathered looking deck in the previous pic.....no foot or paw traffic for a week!



I used Cabot's Clear Solution Stain......

Very nice work. Makes me ALMOST want to keep my deck in place and refinish it... But I remember I hate how my deck is positioned in the yard...

I love the table--I hope you provided for water drainage or cover it when it rains; it'd be a shame to spoil it with standing water.

Nice design on the table top. The inside coloring/grain on the smallest mitered square gives the illusion that it is beveled.

There's no beveling, but it has at least an 1/8" round on all edges. I guessed that the table would see some standing water from time to time. The widest boards were edge glued grain-opposed to help prevent/reduce any apparent warp.

I'm relying/praying on the finish to help prevent most of the moisture ingress and any potential warping (lots of positive recommendations for 'General Finishes - Outdoor Oil') So far....after no cover and exposure to lots of rain for a week after emerging from the shop, no noticeable warping at all....

It's not as low maintenance as glass - but it sure is prettier......and she likes it!

It'll need another coat of finish before the end of the year. Thanks for the positive comments!

I love GF's products, but what you have on that table is a modified linseed oil and I do believe that you will need to cover it. just my 2 cents.
