The floor was 3/4" cherry hardwood. No they don't have the dampers. I had thought about trying to add them but I was told that they didn’t use them on the old vents and weren’t interested. Still would have liked to try to figure out a way to have included them.
    I love lamp.

One easy solve for the dampers, albeit one that doesn't provide directional air control, would be a panel below the main grille that has the exact same cutout pattern, and a slide mechanism that lets you move the sub-grille an inch, so that it either blocks the cutouts (partially or fully), or disappears when they are wide open, as in the following diagram:

        glue?

        Excellent idea.

What kind of glue you used to join the two pieces before routing on them? Just yellow glue?

You can build one under your house in Florida , but do not forget to add AC.

Lol, then I can put all my tools and shop down there and actually watch the rust as it happens! I would have loved it if this house was elevated, all the money I could have been saving on flood insurance, I could have been using to buy tools!!!!

In that case you can add also fire-sprinkles but with WD-40 in place of water.

I do not know if yours went up now here in Florida but I went yesterday to the bank for a fight. My home insurance (small house) went up from $800 to $1700.

As I've been unemployed a friend of mine suggested that I could live in my shop (because he sees me lately there every time he comes) and rent the house.
