Just stain. Cherry is a wood that will get blotches and look uneven after it is stained, but once it is finished and everything is put together, it looks great.

Nice job. I can't quite tell - are all of the doors overlay doors? I like the beadboard on the lower doors.

I need to make an entertainment center, too. The cabinet of ours for the stereo equipment is full of Boyds figurines.

HEEEEYYYYY! Nice way to make me feel inadequate!

But anyway, great job. And the design by your wife deserves the KUDOS too!

Could you share your finishing method for this peice? What were the three stain colors? What order did you apply them? And how many coats of laquer for the top coat? Sprayed or brushed?

              Thanks. - K.

The stain saw a mix of three different minwax stains - 3 parts Red Mahogany, 1 part Jacobean, and 1 part Red Oak. I just mixed them all together and then stained the piece. The finish is Deft semi gloss laquer; 3 coats. It is the brushing laquer, but I sprayed it.

I always find functional pieces to be more rewarding to build, and this is both functional and handsome both of you did a great job.
