Entry Closet - no more wire shelving :)

Every time I opened it I wanted to scream -- I've been wanting to re-do it for a long time, and I finally bit the bullet and did it.

Coats, which we accessed most, were often pushed back in the cubbies behind the walls, and the rickety wire shelving in the middle held a bunch of stuff that we hardly ever accessed. So I moved the shelves to the sides, and the hanger rods in the middle. If we need extra hanging space now, we can just take out a couple shelves.

Next comes some paint, a shoe rack, and an umbrella holder. Plus I want to wire up an LED light "fixture" to a reed switch so that the lights come on when you open it up. We'll see how that one goes...

    Before and after:

that looks really nice Alex. I wish I could make our entry closet bigger, but I don't have that option.

Like David, our coat closet isn't big enough to have the side shelves but I may use the offset/double rod idea.

Looks better.. functions better with the off-set rods and probably smells better with the nice touch of aromatic cedar. Nice job on both design and construction.

WOW!! that is what you call total transformation! the really like the routed detail that you put on the trim piece. the LED touch is going to be a sweet function! cant wait to see the final pics.

                good luck!

Closet looks good. Clothes won't be jammed in the corners anymore. If you pulled a 110V circuit in there, you could use a pressure switch, that works like a "refrigerator light", or maybe even a motion sensor switch. If not, maybe there are DC versions available.

Ha, I am glad to know someone else hates wire shelves with a passion! I would love to redo all our closets, but my wife just will not let me. Congratulations not just on a beautiful looking project but also for ridding the world of crappy wire shelves!
