    Step Stool

LOML has been badgering me to make Thomas Jefferson (our youngest!) a step stool. Even though I am was already working on two other projects I decided to take a break and make the stool using hand cut dovetails and glue. No mechanical fasteners were used in this red oak stool. I used only 5' of 4/4 by 6" red oak. Not nearly finished as It has just been stained with Minwax red oak. I'll apply a few coats of poly before bringing it into the house. Enjoy the pics. This is not my first effort at hand cut dovetails but so far my best work. I get better with each time. FWIW sharp chisels is a must!

    Nice

Are you enjoying the snow today or is it just on top of the mountain?

Last night NWCN said 15 more inches were expected, you may have time to finish all your projects while snowed in.

    Bill, who remembers snow....

No snow here, just in the mountains.

Well done BW! Is that a dowel carefully hidden in pic 3 on the bottom in the flame grain pattern?

Uhhh no I think that is just a flaw. Possibly where the stain is bleeding out.

Thanks for the kind words guys. The tail boards were cut with a band saw and the waste chopped away. The pin boards were 100% hand cut chopped. All joints were undercut about 2°.

Looks good Mark. Still trying to master dovetails with a jig, so haven't tried to handcut them. Yours turned out quite nice.

Very nice job on the DT's, Mark. And it does get easier the more you do it. Pretty soon you will be able to take the points down to much narrower when called for as in small drawers. I've seen that Klaus fella take the point down to where he cuts both sides from one saw kerf entry point. He amazes me cutting them but he did have to cut several hundred a day in his father's cabinet shop in Germany every day as a young boy.

Regards and keep up the great hand work....
