I got a crystal humidifier at a local cigar store. You're supposed to fill it with some sort of glycol. I decided to forego a meter. The cigar store guy said the analog ones are useless and a digital one would have broken the budget.
(My family experimented with an on-line "secret Santa" thing this year. The list inlcuded my siblings and our adult children, from which a name was automatically chosen for us. His/her profile indicated preferences, hobbies, interests, etc. Gifts are supposed to be in the $50-$75 range. This project got within the budget only because I used a gift certificate at the local hardwood store.)
Very cool! My father had a .50-cal box as a shoe-shine box. I suppose they'd make nice flower boxes, too.
