Thanks for all the kind comments, I appreciate each and every one. Following the plans, the mane was easy. After I rough cut the pieces on the badsaw, I stuck them together with carpet tape for a trip to the sanding center. Gang sanding made it easy to make identical parts for each side. The little button eyes that came in the hardware pack really added to the over all effect.

    David,
The canary wood was very nice to work with. It cut nice on the bandsaw, machined well on the router table and was easy to sand. The only unexpected aspect was after I put the first coat of poly on. The wood darkened more than I expected. I wasn't unhappy with the results, I just wasn't expecting it.

Hopefully, Jen will send me pictures of Kelly playing "cowgirl" after it is delivered and I'll be able to post a follow up picture.

I like the layout of the pieces against the wood grain. Very sharp.

Looks nice, is the dowel on the neck wood or does it have something inside?
Of course Lumber is expensive, what do you think, it grows on trees

The dowel on the neck is 3/4" wood dowel, set about 2" deep in the head. It goes through the body/lazy Susan bearing and is flush with the under side of the front leg assembly. It is glued and screwed in place.
