    Simple Shoe Rack..

This was finished a few weeks ago and I had no real intention of posting it as it is merely a simple shoe rack. Very straight-forward utilizing stopped dadoes.. design kept simple as strickly a function piece. Solid wood finished in Danish Oil and Wax.

But.. with Xmas around the corner I decided to post is as some may be looking for ideas to do small gifts in a hurry and this fits that description rather well. I could have added frill.. cubbies.. etc. but decided that simple function should be the main ingredient on this small piece.

    Wishing everyone Happy Holidays...

No reason to be shy about that shoe stand. It's a nice looking piece. The upper parts of the vertical sides is interesting though. Not sure why you rounded the front but not the back. Style yeah, but it is something I hadn't seen before...

I like the danish oil finish. Definately something worth working with...

      Sarge,

Shoe rack looks great. The sides are either really wide flatsawn boards or masterfully grain matched. Either way, I like the look.

        You keep your shoes outside?!?

At least leave them out on the 5th this month - -you might find them filled with treats in the morning! (St. Nick's Day)

It looks great! I have one on my honey-do list, too. I might have to borrow that design

Thanks DB... I have no clue why I rounded the front and not the rear.

This piece was designed while drinking a cup of coffee. Not a tremendous amount of thought went into it as..it is just a simple shoe rack that would end up in the closet and not be seen until it was opened. Even though she decided afterward and for whatever reason to place it in the BR on a corner wall. What women think and why is another "I don't have a clue" for me. But that thought came after the fact as I suppose after seeing it she wanted it out?

The curves on top were derived in about two minutes with a set of French curves and by just playing around since this was not going to be seen by the public. I'll try anything once just to see what response it gets. I was going to add a back which the rear top would have connected to but I decided after the thought to forget it as it would serve no functional purpose with the piece inside the closet.

So.. in essence what you see is luck of the draw.. changing minds with the boat at mid-stream and need for a simple and speedy build to move on to the computer desk. What you see is what she gets. That will teach her.... yeah........ right!

I am not a bad grain matcher but in this case it is one flatsawn actually cut down from 17" wide stock. I can get some pretty wide red oak local but as you know it has to be flat-sawn. This piece was originally slated to go in a BR closet but she changed her mind after the build and seeing it.

                Thanks for the compliment...

I leave them out there only when I decide to kill fungus with heat or cold..

Thanks Alex.. I was trying something one of ya'll photography guru's mentioned to try. Taking the shot outside without flash to attempt to get less flash on the finish.

Thanks.. it is very simple and would make a good project for a beginner or for a Xmas gift, Claudio. Nothing but dadoes on this piece so it can be achieved as a week-end project by anyone.

                    Again thanks for the compliment....

In Germany we would put our boots out on December 5th, and if we were good kids, they'd be filled with candy by morning. If we were bad kids, then we'd get a stick.... I don't think I ever got the stick or if I did I ate it anyway... It's St. Nicholas' Day -- St. Nicholas the Woodworker ... er... I mean Wonderworker. I think I got the date right.

Ah, I see. Well that makes a heck of a lot more sense

I was in Belgium last week, and was informed that, while St. Nick and Santa are *both* recognised...They are not to be confused. Ok by me...

                          Nice Job!

But LOML would need at least 10 of them.

                            Great work as always Sarge.
I think in straight lines, but dream in curves

I like it! Sometimes the best projects are the quick and simple. No doubt it will see a lot of use.
