Art, no need to apologise, I don't mind the least that you like the idea and want
to do something like it. I don't care for the flat screen tv's on the wall, and thought
this the best solution because I wanted a nice mantle top over the tv for my photos, as well as a small atmosphere light.
As I stated before, we cut the side wall down to 10"
and had to add about 3" to the bottom of the side wall, cause we needed more than 50"
(The old tv was a 50" so it was a few inches narrower (it was 47" wide) -- the new tv is a 52" and it is 50" wide...the buffet is 50"...I gave this a lot of thought, because I didn't want to built another tv unit, as this one was nice, as well as functional.
Here are the dimensions...
Buffet: 18" deep 50" wide 21" high
side walls: 40 1/2" high off the buffet 10 " deep
mantle top: 15 deep X 56" long The mantle top hangs over the side walls about
1 1/2" in front and there is a about a 2" air space in back of the mantle
so the mantle top is actually about 13" The side molding on the mantle
goes back to the wall
This tv is narrow, ( about 4" deep) first we decided how far out we wanted it to be on the buffet, and that's how we determined the side wall width of 10"
Here are better shots of the side of it. See the little piece of filler we had to add to the side wall, to bring the tv up a little higher.
