    Finally Finished!!!

This desk took me almost 10 months to complete, but only worked on it a few evenings and weekends.
I made a lot of mistakes but I also learned quite a bit. Most of this project was waaaay beyond my capabilities when I started but, that is the reason for building it. I now have skills I didn't have before and (hopefully) won't make the same mistakes in future projects.
Sorry for the picture quality, I found a couple gorillas to carry it in the house before I thought of taking pics.
The base is really only 2 cabinets with sliding shelves to store my computer on the right and printer (as soon as I get one) on the left. Other than the back, it is all red oak with just 3 coats of poly and no stain.

            Very nice work.
I see a few of the same features that I have in my mental plans for a new computer desk.
You indicate that the tower unit is on a sliding tray. It also looks like there is a door on that cabinet. Do you leave the door open while the computer is on so that there is cross ventilation?
What kind of slide did you use on the sliding shelves?

            Again...nice job!!
Why doesn't the word 'planing' show up in my computer spell check?

Outstanding! That's a really comprehensive project, with a lot of stuff going on. It would be a challenge for the most skilled woodworker. Nicely done.

Yes, the door stays open when in use but, there is about a 4" X 11" opening behind the shelf on the bottom and the top is open to the drawer bottom and that space opens up entirely under the desk. Ventilation is not going to be a problem IMO but the door will be open none-the-less.
I just used the wooden center slide from Rockler under the shelves with poplar runners on the sides. With alot of waxing time, they work great.
Thank you for the nice words.
