Router Table/Air Cleaner

After going over to the dark side I lost the router table in the BT3100. I decided to incorporate the squirrel cage blower confiscated from my H&AC unit when we recently replaced the system. This is my combined router table/air cleaner I came up with.

The long, narrow chamber for the router should make the dust collection better.

Is there enough airflow for the DC to be able to clear the chamber and, if so, where does it come from? Always wondered about that.

that is a nice setup! i too like the idea of killing two birds with one stone. that sure is good use of floor space.

just out of curiosity, what does it measure from the floor to the top of the ridgid sander? it looks a little high, do you find it to be at a comfortable height. the reason why i ask is, i have one but want to build a table for it as well, and am thinking of working heights....

A Tip: Get P.E.T. bottle and cut the sides until you have a 4 to 5 inch square.
Cut a hole in the center the size of the shaft of the router, then trim to fit just inside the housing, and place it there.

This will allow air to freely go through the motor but deflect a lot of the sawdust that would otherwise fall straight into the motor.

(Another way of putting this for those who can't visualize my description above - this is a thin plate or huge thin washer, so to speak, that fits over the shaft and above the motor as the motor hangs upside down. )

That looks great. I really like the integration of the air cleaner down low where I wouldn't want to put anything I'd need on a regular basis anyhow (it hurts my back getting stuff out of the bottom drawers). Great design and execution!

Bob, It's hard to tell from the picture but there is about 1/4" gap in the middle section at the top, plus the area around the bit. It keeps the interrier suprisingly dust free, now I need to get busy and build something for the fence to catch the shavings from the top.

Omar, the rolling stands are 34 1/2" floor to top which brings the sander table top to 47 1/2". I'm under 6' but it seems to be a good height to me.
