    Stereo Case/ TV Stand

    Construction details:

    size: roughly 52"W x 23"D x 24"H. 2 adjustable shelves
    wood type: solid Ash
finish: black parts "ebonized" with Speedball India Ink. 4 coats water-based polyurethane
    Construction time: 180,000s

This is a modified version of a Woodsmith plan. Original plan is for a larger version with solid side and divider panels - without the "ebonizing." My amplifier gives off so much heat that I needed something open. Hence the slats.

The Ash is very nice - whiter than what the pictures show. Artistically I was interested in a high-contrast result. Which is the reason for the ebonized Ash. The water-based polyurethane maintained the natural white color of the Ash.

I like the contrast in colors. The ebonized wood pops out. Great job! Thank you for posting!

Ash is one of my favorite woods for all the reasons that your pictures show. Good job on that one.

That looks great. I'd have to run out and buy a new TV to do it justice!

            That's really sharp!

How did you do the edge banding on the shelves? It looks like the ebony is inlayed into the edge in the photographs.

That turned out very nice. The contrast in colors really makes this piece. Could you give some more details about the use of ink to ebonize?
