Chip N' Dale Chest on Chest...

The culmination of the final piece of a bedroom suite that consist of a bed.. TV chest.. 6 drawer low chest and the chest on chest. The BR suit was concieved around 9 months ago the final piece delivered by the Wood Obstetrician around mid-nite last night.

A bouncing "baby chest on chest" in good considtion considering the "baby" is multi-jointed. Mama Lisa has embraced the new "baby" with all the natural emotion a loving mom and wife can bestow. A feather in my cap and a pat on the back today.... a command.. a finger pointed to the shop an a kick in the *ss tomorrow that will direct me back to the shop for a new coffee talbe.

So with no further ado... a picture or two. Critique is welcome as I have no formal training in WW or design. Just an Apalachian WW "winger" depending on my old eyes and a bit of luck to concieve and deliver.

A new day tomorrow.. a new journey which always begins with the first step....

Looks great. The "two-level" construction gives it some character.

Very nice, Sarge! You're just kickin' em out of the shop these days.

Nice dovetails, and I really like the bottom of the bottom. Very nice shape.

Is it actually two assemblies in true chest on chest fashion, or a Sarge eye fooler?

        Nice work!

I was about to comment on how much the basswood finished out like Red Oak, but when I just re-read the construction thread it was in Red Oak.

I like it a lot. Very nice design and I like the two level approach.

                Beautiful chest and great workmanship.

My only concern is if the LOML finds out how fast you are turning work out of your shop, I may be in trouble.

I keep using the excuse of needing a new tool (something) before I can finish the next project.

Thanks to everyone for your kind comments.........

It is actually two separate chest J R. You can see them separate in the thread Diary of a Chest in Project Related. I pretty much photo-graphed this thing from a stack to wood until finish. Of course you can take a photo of glue drying or finish curing so there are a few exceptions.

And J R.. I have built a number of 5 drawer chest but was looking for something different here. I like to view Queen Anne and Chippendale in the museum but it would totally out of place in my home. And that style would not be appropriate for oak that I use because I like it and I can afford it.

I was almost stumped on how to approach a country casual style chest on chest and was about to abandon the idea. Then I turned in my shop chair and staring me in the face was my mechanics tool chest on chest. Hmmm... a belt.. a top hat.. and some pretty feet could dress up that tool box to bring inside the house. A journey was from an observation at the tip of my nose!

BTW.. I went ahead and drilled secret holes in the base to accept casters in case the commander and cheif didn't care for the outcome. I have always wanted a Snap-On tool box and would settle for one made from wood. A little modification here.. a little there and I have a wooden mechanics chest.

That is NICE! You really did a good job matching up the grain on the sides.

There's nothing wrong with your *old * eyes, Sarge, nor with your luck. Luck had nothing to do with it though. Like Larry, I love the continued grain on the two pieces seen at the side. Keep 'em comin', sir!

Thanks very much Larry... Chiz and Al. The Chipmonks are burrowed deep inside the bottom drawer seeking relief from the heat and humidity in Georgia at the moment, Al. And not a bad idea at al....

                              Hey Sarge,

You're starting to outdo yourself and most of us.

Really snazzy (if you're as old as me, you'll know that term). Beautiful job. Did you use a "jig" for the dovetails (if so, what brand), or are they hand-cut?
