[Two Much]

I want to show pic's of our latest big project completed in March. It's a secretary unit for over my rolltop desk. We also made matching door mantles for the two doors in the room.
The doors were painted a stark white and I added some tan paint to the white paint and warmed up the doors.

The dvd cabinet (on the right side of the french door) we made a couple of years ago ... it had a plain shaker style top so we changed the top molding on the dvd cabinet to match the top moldings on the secretary unit and the door mantles.

The wood is white QS oak. The darker wood you see on the top of the unit and the doors is a strip of walnut.

I have lots of photos, hope I'm not posting too many.
We put glass on the sides of the secretary to mirror the dvd cabinet.

The drawers were an afterthought, because we installed the center cabinet
higher than we originally planned...that's how the door mantles came into play,
I needed the doors that flanked the secretary to appear higher to
better go with the whole unit.

No, I bought the rolltop about 28 years ago. While shopping for a chair (alone) I came across the desk and bought it on the spot.
The desk is 55" and the wall was 48" ...but that's another story...we had to make the closet smaller to accommodate the desk.

Your friend has a good idea, they have roll tops now that can fit the monitor inside (the desks are higher) We had to Jerry rig my monitor with an angle line on the wall
so that I could close the top of the desk.

I think it looks terrific. Not only is the execution top-notch, but the design and integration of everything on that wall looks fantastic.

Outstanding results... excellent workman-ship.. beautiful decor and a beautiful home... The first thought when one see's LI is a NYC look of somewhat modern. Not so as you have chosen well from the past.

Thank you Gentlemen for your kind comments. I fell in love with the arts and crafts/shaker design a couple of years ago. We made our kitchen cabinets in the same style. I had to convence the head cabinet maker to do flat panels as he wanted raised panels.
He soon fell in love with the timeless simplicity of the shaker design, and we kept going with it... It has a masculine feel to it, and I like that, especially the den it has the mix of both masculine and feminine spirits.
My inspiration for the secretary unit was the sloppy shelves I had on top of the desk. I could never keep the books looking neat. I drew up the plans and after three revisions this was the final design. As I previously stated the small drawers were an afterthought. I am also thinking of covering the exposed wall between the desk and cabinet with oak, but not sure about that?

Beautiful work. I like the design with the height and depth changes. Really sets the piece off.
I'm not a designer but I think I'd leave the wall between the desk and the top like it is. The color change sets the two pieces apart just enough to make you take a good look at both pieces. I really like the diagonal wall paneling in the room too. I'm sure the whole house is beautiful. Pat
