    Simple Tape Holder

This is almost too simple to post. But, I had to think about it. So. . .

I have a small shop and every square foot is occupied. I used to keep masking tape, duct tape, etc. in a drawer. It was a mess.

I decided to hang a holder behind the 4' light fixture over my bench. Using only stuff I had on hand I made my tape holder.

I had a piece of 2" ID PVC, some 1/4" threaded rod, nuts & washers, and a knob. I cut 3/4" Birch ply plugs with a fly cutter.

I hung it under the cabinet, behind the flourescent fixture, with plumber's tape and screws. The knob is to allow the adding of new tape.

Works fine and I have half a drawer to fill.

Simple idea, good execution. don't look like the vertical support is stiff enough so you can peel tape off any of the rolls w/o taking it off first. Just for storage, not use?

      neat idea of storage.

i too was going to ask how does it fair when you try to use the tape while it is on the storage roll?

The copper plumbers tape is surprisingly rigid. Each side is attached to to the cabinet with two screws through a 3" "EL'. I do have to steady the roll with my other hand with the Gorilla Tape. I'd be afraid I would pull the entire cabinet down with that stuff. It sure does stick. The others pull off without torquing the holder.

One thing I didn't mention--I bought some "transfer tape" from LV. It is super thin double stick tape. All that remains is a very thin layer of rubber cement. I stuck the brackets to the underside of the cabinet and drilled and screwed them with the tape in place. It was a real aid in a difficult place to work, upside down and behind something.

That is a good idea and I also like the way you have the washers, nuts and bolts labeled. I need to separate mine that way.

Simple, but very effective. I'm glad you chose to post that (I just may have to do one!).

What do you do when you need the tape at some distance from the 'dispenser'? Dismantle the holder?

                Regards, Steve

I like your idea but may I say … you are way too organized, I mean I like your tape dispenser but your washers, nuts, and bolts all in separate trays?

I have much more efficient method that you … they are all in one big bag, problem is, it can take forever to find what I’m looking for and when I do find it I can’t remember what I needed it for.

That is a great idea. But I'll have to agree with Brian. You're giving us disorganized small-shop users a bad name. Not to mention big time envy.

My nuts and bolts are in little piles all over the shop. When I need one, I go over to HD and buy more. It takes less time than trying to hunt down which pile holds what.
