    Bookshelf (copied from FWW)

Completed this couple of months ago, but could not show here as I did not have a camera. Actually, taking the pictures is a pain - no way to get the full picture standing up! And yes, that's too many books for a small family, but that's why I had to build it (and there's more books that I relegated to a closet)!

Made with Red Oak wood and plywood. Copied from a design in FineWoodWorking, and adapted for my space. It stands 84" tall, and total width is 106", of which the middle portion is 36". The ceiling is tall enough to allow a taller shelf, but that'd not be practicable.

I wanted to put a couple of doors, but LOML nixed it. She's fed up with the kids slamming all cabinet doors. I might still go ahead and put two on the hutch up top; but my 5-yr old wants to use it for 'her display'. She keeps commanding me to make changes by the day .

Have only 3 accent lights installed as yet; have 3 more, am planning to put them facing upwards. This weekend, surely...!

Best of all, LOML loves it; and everybody knows there's nothing more rewarding that that !

I took so much advice from y'all here, that this should be called 'our shelf' . Thanks all!

You might see that I used a bunch of miller dowels to attach the face-frames to the cabinet. I had thought they would be more prominent. As such, I might as well have not bothered with the walnut color.

A closer look at the 'table'. I wanted this for myself, but it's taken over by my 8-yr old; she loves the idea of a 'nook' it presents.

I am sure nobody on this forum is gonna miss the router burn mark on the stile . I did not see it till it was up there, and then I left it alone as a 'character' point (okay, I was tired).

Nice! You and I read some of the same books.

I was looking at the same design for some cases in our "library" -- you've just inspired me to take it into more serious consideration -- maybe get it bumped up on LOML's priority list!

I think that is just stunning, and the finish came out great, too, I like the tone.

Nice work! I've got something similar on my long list of "to-do" projects.

Blum makes a great little device to solve the slamming problem. This one works on any door. This one works with specific Blum euro hinges. I've got the latter on my kitchen cabs and really like 'em. I'm sure you can find them cheaper if you look around

                    Super job !!!
I really like the finish tone and especially like the idea of not having shelf adjustment holes the entire height.

Thanks everybody, for the nice thumbs-up! Love the nice glow of satisfaction it gives me .

Mike, that's an idea - i might try those hinge-adaptors. thanks.

Almost everything on this shelf is from advice I received here : from the joinery (dados / dowels / rabbets) to the dimensions to lamination to the finish. So thanks for the commendation, but before that, thanks for the advice .
