Looks like a good solution to a typical problem. Good job on the floor tile!

I did a full basement bathroom many years ago, but luckily the builder had installed a waste line under the concrete when basement slab was being poured. I just had to chip out about a foot of concrete to set the tub drain.

Is it possible to paint the pipe or would that not be code? If you paint it the wall color it may disguise it some. I like the paint color

Thanks for the information. If I read it correctly, the saniflo unit, with its built-in pump, can be as much as 18 feet below the effluent pipe. That makes it very adaptable to below grade installations, especially when the effluent lines can be a lot closer to ground level than they are here (at least eight feet).

It depends on the unit. The one I bought you are limited to 9 feet of head (how far the pump has to pump up). As I said, there are bigger units that can handle more. My washer drains into a pump that can pump 15' up.

I prefer this definition.

Macerate--Definition: This term means letting food, usually fruit, soak in a liquid to absorb flavor. Fruits are usually soaked in liqueurs. In other words, fruit that is marinated in liqueurs is being macerated.

Kinda gives you a different perspective.

David, that is a great job. I have been working on a bathroom myself, and I know what kind of pain they are to work in, and mine doesn't have the quirks that a basement does. I don't have inspectors to worry about, and I did use a clear primer. I hate that purple stuff, and when I have used it, I ended up purple.

In my bathroom, I painted (actually my wife did) the pvc and cpvc pipes the same color as the wall. Plastic pipe paints very well, so if you can't cover the purple, you may should be able to paint it white or whatever. You did a great job with the caulk. I never would have thougt of that.

Great job on the tile too. Our bathroom was our first ceramic tile attempt, and it sure looks easier on TV.

I was already thinking about painting the pipes but may just leave 'em white and caulk around the purple primer.

I know this is a really old thread, but I have a question about these things.

I'm thinking about doing some work in our walk out attic (two attic sections in bungalow. There are two bedrooms on the second floor with attic in front of and behind them). A bathroom is desired up there, but one area where is would be space efficient to place to put it, there is no way to get a full size drain down to the basement without going through the living room. Am I correct that one of these (at least a larger version that supports a shower) would do the job, letting us just push the plumbing down through an interior wall?

I installed one of these toilets with a sink in my basement bathroom over the winter. The discharge pipe is 1" PVC and runs 7' vertically and 8' horizontally to a 4" cast iron pipe. So yes, you can run a smaller pipe. However, use a larger pipe in the horizontal and drop sections.

I would suggest looking into other means to discharge using gravity, considering it is an attic. Check to see that a 3" pipe can't fit in the wall. Venting shouldn't be a problem. Consult a plumber for opinions, get a free estimate if possible.

Check with local plumbing codes before doing anything.

You can check the saniflo website for manuals regarding the macerating toilets. I ordered mine online for less than $500 (not the unit that handles a shower, but the sanicompact.)

I suppose you could put one of those upstairs but I would really consider a gravity fed toilet if possible. A 3" pipe would fit in an interior wall but you would lose most of the framing around it. You might consider framing in a chase in the room(s) below or putting them in a closet and making the closet smaller. . I would think about that before I put one of these in. This toilet would work in your application, but a standard toilet is much simpler (not as many parts to break).
