    Toddler Bed

So the fact that I did most of the work on this bed is hardly impressive compared to the fact that my wife learned to turn making these legs on a cheap HF lathe. It is made of common grade pine, with a clear sander sealer followed by 2 coates of the minwax polyshades pecan finish. My son will be able to start sleeping on it immediatly.

    That is outstanding!!
Both the curved top headboard and the legs are impressive and look great.

Brilliant! Got any plans? My 1-1/4 year old will be needing a toddler bed before too long!

Were the entire legs turned, or just the tops/bottoms?

I do not have plans of any value it was a bunch of scribblings on a paper and a picture from the pottery barn web site we used as design guides, I suggest buying the mattress build the head and footboard to width then build the rails to fit the legnth. the frame on the head and footboard have tenons that are morticed into the posts to hold it all together.

The leg posts were lamanited, Cut square, Routed the corners, and turned them with the full leg the lathe. The tops posts barely fit on the lathe I have. If I had not been given the lathe for free(don't be jealous it is a cheap lathe) I would have just purchased Bun feet and whatever the equivalant tops are called and glued them on it would have saved alot of time.

Very nice DJ and I doubt the young man will give a hoot whether his bed is pine.. walnut.. cherry.. etc. That obsession to keep up with the peers comes a little latter in life starting about 4th grade these days as it used to be latter. But.. times have changed.

Nice job from the family. My first thought with your son barefoot were you were from here in the south. You must have relatives that were at one time as everyone knows we don't wear em down here and all drive 69 Chargers with a Rebel flag painted on top. Where have you gone.... C-a-t-h-e-r-i-n-e B-a-c-h.. I miss ya Daisy Duke.. Hazzard County just ain't the same..

Again.. well done job by the Cannon clan...

 what I meant was, "was the entire leg in the lathe or just the ends? ...or, was it a big lathe or a midi?"

Hey, cheap lathe or not, you can fit an entire bed post in it! That's a pretty good deal if you ask me!

Nice job! Your wife's legs are great!

Hopefully you have better luck keeping your lil' one in there all night long than we had. Once he graduated from crib to toddler bed, he liked to take advantage of the open sides and sneak into our bed every night about 2:00.
