    Exploding Box

I made several of these Exploding Boxes from a description in an American Woodworker Book entitled Great Gift Projects. They can be made in an afternoon. The box is made out of Birch and stained a dark walnut. The moldings were made on the router table.

This is the view of the box when it is assembled.

These are the sides of the box. The glued on blocks allow the hammer [I learned this is the term used for the business end of the mousetrap.] to knock the sides and the top off.

I modified the plan when I put two cut off nail heads where the hammer hits. I put those little plastic caps that come in a ring, on each nail head. When the hammer falls, it makes a bang. The video dampens the bang substantially. It sounds like a .22 LR going off.

That is great! I might invest a few hours and make one.
If you can read this you assembled wrong.

I think I could come up with it, too, but the plans would make it easier!

                        Pat & Don--I sent you a PM.

It appears that the American Woodworker Book is our of print. I could not find a copy anywhere on the web. It was published in 1995 by Rodale. This is the table of contents.

Too bad about the book. I would love to get my hands on plans for the exploding box and whatever a "Nasty Box" is.

Only in America.... every married, home-shop terrorist should make one! I'm thinking of an en-larged version with a bear-trap inside. That'll teach people to be nosy....

Nice work Steve and nice find.. I'll give some thought to the "find" part.
