2 3/4 years Finally Finished!

I am so pleased that this project is done. I can now figure out where to put it. I don't want our youngest to start playing with it and hitting it because mark said that the glass was thin. So I think on my days off I am going to have to move some things around so that I can get it into the house so that I can now proudly display some things that were given to me by my great grandmother and some other things that are special.

And yes I am one happy wife right now, and was very pleased that the glass only cost fifty dollars.

Edit: Ok, I actually just got up after working my normal night shift and Mark told me to read this. I hadn't gone out to the kitchen or other rooms as yet. Just walked out and there it sits in my dining room already up and has some things on it already.

Your experience with glass is the same as mine! Tempered, beveled, 1/4 in. I have no problems with plumbing, wiring and general wood work, but glass cutting eludes me.

OK, Mark, I believe the story now. And to think, it only took nearly 3 years and 2 different threads to show it off...and this is a piece that definitly deserves to be shown off!

Very inspiring. I particularly like how you managed to create a beautiful, substantial piece of furniture without using $500 worth of wood.

I don't know if others can relate, but I look at the cut lists for some projects and start thinking about the tools I could buy instead of all of that wood...
(I am not claiming it is logical, just the way my mind works!)

Very nice indeed!! Even Norm would be impressed. I watched Norm put a top like that on a highboy but his "curved top" was full thickness and involved bending some thin wood, looks like yours is made from a solid piece and cut to form?

Veeeery nice. That's definitely one to be proud of and a true heirloom to hand down to the family. My wife is encouraging me to carve or burn in my name and date to the furniture projects. It may not mean much more than 'great granddad built it' to a future generation but at least there's bit of history for them to ponder. We have a cedar chest built by LOML's grandfather and we treasure it. I think he'd be proud.

No worries there is a frame shop right up the street that had an open sign. I pulled in there and asked if they cut glass. After the guy said yes I handed him my list and said how much. I could not believe it only $50.00. I said yes, he said, "you want it now?" I said yep! have you ever watched someone cut glass that is really good at it? I did! This guy was simply amazing! He used a poster board as a straight edge, measured twice, scored the glass free hand and snap. I was in awe.

Very nice job! I really like your idea of checking with a framing shop to see if they can cut glass. That idea never occured to me.
