Nice top and tons of storage. The mobility is pretty neat. I bet it works well for you.

              Hey Omar,
Your workbench looks great, even with the little booboos. I don't know about everybody else, but ALL of my projects have some little mistakes.

              So...fantastic job.

Guys, you need to know Omar was kinda down after some of the issues he had making the bench. I knew all he needed was to post the pics here for you guys to review. It's great work. He should be very proud of the result of his efforts.

Thanks for sharing Omar. Great stuff.

                    put me to shame

I just finsihed topcoating my basic 2x4 plywood topped l-shaped bench that encompasses the utility sink, but this puts me to shame. We moved into a house that had no shelves or benches, so I had to put something together to act as my home base and straighten out the garage. WHat you did is nice, portable and literllay has a nice look to it, I love the top.

                    QUESTION:

Can that brown MDF board you see at Home depot be used as a workbench top? is it stong enough to handle weight, say someone standing on top? Just didn't know how sturdy it ot (about 3/4-1" thick)

                      Thanks!

Thanks everyone and steve for your uplifting comments!

professorkev, the mdf on the side are (2) layers of 3/4". hd only has 3/4" as the thickest stocked mdf. there are other on this site you have used (2) layer as their table top. in fact, some have used (3) layers with greater spans between supports. can a person stand on it, it all depends on how close the supports are placed under the top, the short the span, the better. do a search here on the site "work bench top" and you will see plenty of pictures that people have posted in the past using mdf for work bench tops.

one thing you can do, is if you are for sure going to use mdf, buy a couple of sheets and put supports under them and stand put some weight on it, and see how it performs.

good luck, if you still have any question, this site is a great place to post it. all the people here are great and real helpful!

                      regards,

Shop Notes (I'll provide the issue number later) has a plan to build a workbench for under $100. All you need is couple of MDF sheets and some fir lumber from HD. I'm working on my workbench and about to follow this plan but I later decided to use butcher block as top.

Nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done. Now, if you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain't you.
