Chess board.
Bravo! Those things can be tricky and it looks like you did a great job! I can't imagine cutting veggies on it. Definately a chess board.online at http://www.theFrankes.com

I agree. Chess board. That really does look good. I wouldn't ruin it by using it as a cutting board.
Do you have any photos from during the creation of it ? I'd love to see how that went together.

Thanks for the comments,no assembly pics sorry, I used purple heart, oak, and mahogony all scraps from railroad tonnnage. I did what most do I think? glue up the strips and spacers in alternating colors and then cut across then flip flop the pieces to create the chess board effect. I planed it down before I did the cross cut, that helped with the second glue up. The picture does't show it but the border really is bad, uneven sides and poor corners.Comment

if it was 7x7 I would say cutting board but you did count right (8x8) and it looks nice, so, chess board.Loring in Katy, TX USA

That looks great. I'll say it's a cutting board. But don't cut anything on it. Use it for chess.
EdDo you know about kickback? Ray has a good writeup here... https://www.sawdustzone.org/articles...mare-explained

Besides if I hear oak is to porous a wood for use as a cutting board."Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one." by Albert EinsteinComment
