    Band Saw Box

This one is based on a couple of designs in the "Making Beautiful Boxes" book that I combined into one box (it is two boxes mounted on a common base in the book). It came within one millimeter of the limits of my 14" bandsaw (horizontally). It is made from a plank of cherry from the "junk" pile at my local hardwood supplier - he gave me a 30% discount because it was only about 50% heartwood - I thought the sapwood would give the box a little more contrast. The glue-up on this one was quite a challenge as I had to glue both edge to edge and face to face to make a big enough block (two seperate glue ups). It measures 10.5" wide by 12.5" tall. My brother and his fiancee are getting this for their wedding. Thanks for looking.

That is an excellent variation of the Lotus, Travis. It is beautiful.
The Cherry was a nice choice.

That's wild, Travis. And, the Cherry will only get more beautiful as it ages. Are there some handles for the drawers planned?

            Travis,
That is awesome! I haven't been ambitious enough to try one that complex yet. As Pappy asked, how do you get the drawers open. On the one I made, I but a hole through the back for a finger to push the drawer out.
            Great work.

                        Thanks all.

Yeah, I went with the finger holes in the back on this one. After making a few of these, some with and some without the drawer pulls, I prefer the finger holes for the ones with more figured wood (I think the pulls distract from the figure) and the pulls (usually in a contrasting color) for the ones that don't have much figure (to add some visual interest).

Also, once you make a couple and get the hang of it, the complexity really doesn't matter much. You're just doing all the same things you do on the simple ones but more of it. Just make sure you don't exceed your bandsaw limits while you are in the design phase - I got lucky on this one and just barely squeaked it through.
