    Pie Safe Done

An old family friend requisitioned this one from me and she had very specific ideas on what she wanted.

She tells me that the symbol I punched in the tins means something in Chinese, but I forget what. Possibly it means "punching twelve patterns in tins makes your arms tired". Very wise indeed. Not sure I would volunteer to do any more tins anytime soon. =)

It turned out pretty nice...even though the color is way to bright for my tastes.

There were three pieces so it took me about two months from design to finish. I did everything in batch so it could have taken longer. I did all the milling at the same time, then all the joinery/finish cuts at the same time...etc.

You can check out what it looked like from start to finish (and the plans) here.

Looks great!!! I agree I wouldn't have chosen that color if they were for me. But we all have different tastes.

I don't normally don't go for painted wood but I kinda like the red on this one. If it were finished naturally it wouldn't have the same oriental flavor. Beautiful job. Pat

Very nice. Pies are not safe with me, though.

Can you elaborate on your finishing process? You sprayed clear lacquer, red paint (spray lacquer?), then poly?

Very nice work. The tins may have left you with sore arms, but they sure look nice.

Very nice. Now you'll probably have to make the rest of the furniture for the kitchen and dining room.
