I should have taken a "before" pic of this piece of firewood. Since this piece was split along the grain, it was interesting to see the undulations of the surface, and how this waviness of the fibers makes for the "curliness" of the grain.

Somehow, the coloration prior to finish didn't quite strike me as maple. Sure looks like Maple in these pics, though.

It's French, Tom. It helps to wear yellow and run backwards when speaking the language.
Uh, French-French, not Ca. French guys.

Nice looking picture frame Tom. I really like the spline accents.

My thought was some nice use of some Curly Maple, too!

That's a nice looking frame. The splines really set it off too.

Great work! I haven't quite learned how to do those splines yet but I aspire to create some like yours.

Wow, beautiful. I have a few ash and cheery logs I was saving to cut down. I was just gonna burn them but now they are back in the shop.

Did you dry them? or check the moisture content?

                    thanks...

Nope, and nope. This log came out of a load of firewood I had delivered, so it was probably drying for ~2 years, though (their claim).

Now that I think of it, this wood cost about $1000 per board foot.

Hmmm, if you've got some cherry logs, maybe you need to buy a lathe....

                      Regards,
                      Tom

Wow, that's a beautiful frame. Got any more of that firewood laying around that you want to get rid of?
