    Entry Table

Well I would like to take a moment to share with you my latest finished project. It is an entry table that will be a combination Christmas, Birthday and house warming gift for a friend of mine that I work with. She gets to hear about woodworking most of the day so I think she deserves something for listening to me!

I apologize for the quality of the pictures as I seem to be rather camera challenged but I think everyone knows that by now. I hope to get some pictures under natural sunlight but unfortunately it is dark and rainy today.

The table is made from Beech, Walnut and Angire veneer. It measures 34” wide by 33” tall by 15” deep. The legs are tapered down on all sides.

This picture is pretty good and shows the colors almost as they are. The interesting thing about this veneer is no mater how hard I tried I just could not make the bookmatch line invisible. I thought I had done pretty well but as soon as the oil finish hit it, POW there it was.

A little closer look at the apron and the tops profile. The apron is made from 12 pieces of beech bent laminated together and the bottom and top of the apron have 1/8” thick walnut banding. The legs have matching walnut inlays surrounding them and again down by the bottom of the legs. They top has a 1/8” bevel on the top and a 3/8” bevel on the bottom.

A bit of a closer look at the top shows the inlays of walnut, beech then walnut again 1/8” thick. One of the major challenges for me on this one was the fitting of the lit to the plywood substrate. It had to be a perfect fit and that took a bit of thinking to figure out how to make that happen. The beech of the lip is 1-1/4” wide.

Anyhow, I faced many new challeges on this one but I think it turned out pretty well and I hope she likes it.

Looks absolutely tops, I know she'll love it.
