Hi guys,
Here is my first band saw box.
The Story
Friend of mine loves butter flys. So having a chunk of wood sitting around, I figured it would make a decent birthday gift.
The Project
I took an image off of google and pasted it to the block. Used an 1/8' 15 tpi blade and cut out the shape. Switched to 1/2 ??TPI (my only 1/2" blade) and cut about a 1/4" off for the top.
I used fostners bits to dig out the inside and made the top swing open as opposed to makeing a draw.
The I finished it with pecan miniwax poly/stain combo. One note I do not really like product as it was much more difficult to get a smooth finish with it.
The Results
Here are some pictures:
One interesting part of this is the grain of wood sems curved on the space between the 2 wings. It looks cool, like the wings are streaming back from the center. To be clear about it, I did not plan it but it came out that way. This led me to wonder if then doing a curve like that this would happen again.
